The aftermath...
The first part of Thomas' routine is E for Eating. Right now he is eating 4 oz about every three hours. He is a good eater and moans while he eats like he is tasting nectar from the gods.
The only deviation from this is when he is having a growth spurt he wants to eat between 6 - 8 oz at a time.
We have found that if he sits for a little while after he eats he spits up less, even though most everyone has been initiated into this club at one time or another.
Don't wear your nice clothes when you are coming to visit Thomas :-)
Here he is enjoying hanging out for little while with his friend Jack. But usually after a few minutes he starts to get squirmy and wants to move onto the next part of the routine...
The second part of Thomas' routine is A for Activity. He has "Activity Time" for about one hour or so at a time.
Some of the things he likes to do while he plays is sit in his bouncy chair with his keys and George or sit in his swing and stare at the leaves going around his head.
But his favorite Activity is to lay on his mat, kick and swing his arms while talking to his friends.
This mat was a present from his Great Aunt Linda. Vanessa (in true Jacobs' fashion according to Nana) "rigged it up" with extra toys that rattle, ring and vibrate along with Christmas lights and a mirror.
The blankets he are laying on are a quilt made for Vanessa when she was a baby and a blue and yellow crocheted blanket made for Vanessa's first child. Both blankets were made by her Great-Grandma Miller.
Thomas will lay and kick and talk to the ducks and the bugs on the mirror for 20 - 30 minutes at a time. I am not sure what they are saying to each other, but he laughs, coos and smiles like he is having the time of his life with his best buds.
The third part of Thomas' routine is S for Sleep. He takes about 3 naps a day and each nap last between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours.
He sometimes takes a short catnap around 5:30 pm for 45 minutes. This is the only time he is allowed to sleep somewhere other than his crib. Usually it is in his swing or on Nana's shoulder.
Napping in his crib is the only thing we have had some difficulties with, but he is improving. He goes to sleep pretty easily, but he doesn't always stay asleep. One reason for this is he will swing his arms around while he is sleeping, hit himself on the face and wake himself up. We wrap him up in the "baby burrito" to help out with this.
Around 7:30 pm Thomas takes his bath. I think this is his favorite part of the day. I have never seen a baby just sit and soak in a tub.
He loves his bath!!
He sometimes sits and looks at the colors on the pages but mostly he likes to stare at the fan.
Finally, he goes to sleep around 8:00 pm. He always sleeps with his friend, Buddy. He likes to bury his face in Buddy's blanket body. If Vanessa is lucky he wakes up only once in the middle of the night to eat.
Aunt Amy came to visit from Austin to attend a Language Arts conference.
Thomas was hoping she would take him downtown with her so he could get some dessert at Mi Tierra's.
